SUNDAY, July 4th 2021
“THEY DO NOT DESPISE A PROPHET EXCEPT IN
HIS OWN LAND.”
- The first reading tells us that the prophet is
God’s witness among men. His testimony is heard does
not matter it listened or rejected. This helps us to take
his word as a sign. In this case, before God, who sends
the messenger: “Son of Adam, I am sending you to the
Israelites, to a rebellious people who have rebelled against
me…”. Today these prophets are each one of the baptized,
as we receive this triple gift from God “Priests, Prophets,
and Kings”.
- In the second reading, St. Paul, the great proclaimer
of the Gospel, felt the temptation of triumphalism, like us
in so many moments that we have lived in similar attitudes.
For this reason, he thanked God for surrounding him with
weaknesses of all kinds: poor health, harsh criticism,
material deprivation, insults, “because, when I am weak,
then I am strong.” What a life lesson St. Paul leaves us
today in what we call the Imitation of Christ.
- In the Gospel Jesus is received with suspicion and
rejection by his own people. Like them, we often resist
the prophetic word because of our stubbornness of heart,
rooted in misguided pride that leads to weakness and
despair.
- Today, the Fourth of July, we give thanks to God
for the United States of America on its Independence
Day because. It has welcomed us and given us many
opportunities to grow and strengthen our Latin American
roots in spite of the racism and classism that still remain
in many sources of American Society. Tomorrow will be
a National Day and we will have a ONE Special Bilingual
Mass at 9:00 am to commemorate this great day.

“NO DESPRECIAN A UN PROFETA MAS QUE EN
SU PROPIA TIERRA”.
- La primera lectura nos dice que el profeta es testigo de Dios
entre los hombres. Su testimonio no se hace oír nunca en balde, lo
escuchen o lo rechacen. Esto nos ayuda a tomar una actitud como
un signo; es decir, ante lo que el testigo atestigua. En este caso
ante Dios, que envía al mensajero: “Hijo de Adán, yo te envío a los
Israelitas, a un pueblo rebelde que se ha rebelado contra mi…”.
Hoy estos profetas somos cada uno de los Bautizados, al recibir
este triple regalo de Dios “Sacerdotes Profetas y Reyes”.
- En la segunda lectura, San Pablo, el gran proclamador del
Evangelio, sentía la tentación del triunfalismo, como nosotros en
tantos momentos que hemos vivido en actitudes similares, Por
eso, agradece a Dios que lo rodee de debilidades de todo género:
Poca salud, criticas duras, privaciones materiales, insultos, porque,
cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte. Que lección de vida nos deja
hoy San Pablo en lo que llamamos la Imitación de Cristo.
- En el Evangelio Jesús es recibido con recelo y rechazo por
parte de su propio pueblo. Al igual que ellos, nosotros a menudo
nos resistimos a la palabra profética por nuestra obstinación de
corazón, arraigada en el orgullo erróneo que conduce a la debilidad
y a la desesperanza.
- Hoy, Cuatro de JULIO damos Gracias a Dios por Estados
Unidos en su Día de Independencia por cuanto nos ha acogido
y dado muchas oportunidades de Crecer y Fortalecer nuestras
raíces latinoamericanas a pesar del racismo y clasismo que aún
permanecen en muchas fuentes de la Sociedad Americana.
Mañana Será día Nacional y tendremos UNA Misa Especial Bilingüe
a las 9:00 am para conmemorar este gran día.
