“JESUS TAUGHT WITH AUTHORITY”
- According to today’s text, to teach with authority is to
teach in such a way as to help others find solutions to their problems
and meaning in their lives. It is not just about useful and practical
things, but about a kind of teaching that helps people to be authors
of their own lives. This is what authority means, therefore, a person
who teaches with authority not only offers information about the
subjects he or she deals with, but also helps people to live life more
fully, finding its deepest meaning.
- Many times we teach things that serve no purpose, while
Jesus in all cases leaves us great examples and questions to solve
along the way. Many wonder how is it that even demons and
unclean spirits obey him? We remember that the Word of God is
always effective, it frees us from all the evil that oppresses us and
grants us the enjoyment of peace and salvation. The Eucharist is
healing and a passage to a new life, which makes us overcome old
selfishness and sterile and outdated practices.
- The way of relationship with God, the first reading tells us,
was expressed through the prophets in the Old Testament, now it
is directly the Word announced by Jesus, our Lord. “He who glories,
let him glory in the name of the Lord”
- As far as pastoral work is concerned, the professionals
of evangelization opt for celibacy in order to be able to dedicate
themselves fully to the difficult and dangerous task of proclaiming
the Gospel. For this reason, a celibate who is settled, enriched and
uncommitted is not justified, as St. Paul tells his communities.
- In the personal project of life, I invite you to include in this
year, what are your interests and exercises that we have to carry
out to reach salvation and progress in our spiritual life. In the
Liturgical environment we have all the necessary tools to grow and
remain as good children of God.
- NOTE: We will Solemnly celebrate the Feast of the
Presentation of the Child God in the Temple and Our Lady of
Candelaria this Friday, February 2nd with Father Gabriel beginning
with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. You are welcome
to bring the images and the little children for the Blessing.

Anniversary of Blessed Sacrament Parish, scheduled for Sunday,
June 2, Feast of the Body and Blood of the Lord, to register by

“CONVERTIOS Y CREED ENEL EVANGELIO”
- En este texto se hace una neta contraposición entre la
pesca de peces y la pesca de seres humanos. Para dedicarse a
esta última, los discípulos abandonaron las redes. A los hombres
no se les pesca con redes, sino respetando su libertad hasta lo
inverosímil.
- El impacto que causó la noticia de que el profeta Juan
había sido encarcelado debió ser muy grande en todos aquellos
que fueron desde muy lejos a bautizarse, al otro lado del Rio
Jordán. Grandes multitudes que escuchaban los bramidos de este
hombre vestido con pelo de camello y alimentado con langostas
y miel del monte, quedaban profundamente impresionados;
regresaban a sus aldeas convencidos de que Dios estaba hablando
por su medio a todo el pueblo y que se bautizo debía transformar
la vida de todos.

La predicación de Juan, recogida mas ampliamente en el
evangelio de San Lucas, era inquietante, aun para hoy. ¿Cuándo
la gente le preguntó” “Qué debemos hacer?”, Juan les contestó:
“El; que tenga dos trajes, dele uno al que no tiene ninguno; y el
que tenga comida, compártala con el que no la tiene. A los que
cobraban los impuestos para Roma les decía: “No cobren mas delo
que deben cobrar”, también algunos soldados le preguntaron:
“nosotros, que debemos hacer?”. Les contesto: “No le quiten
nada a nadie, ni con amenazas ni acusándolo de algo que no
haya hecho; y confórmense con su sueldo. Además, reprendió
a Herodes, el gobernador porque tenía por mujer a Herodías, la
esposa de su hermano, y también por todo lo malo que había
hecho; pero Herodes, a todas sus malas acciones añadió otra:
Metió a Juan a en la cárcel.
- Jesús, que también había ido a bautizarse en el Jordán,
no podía permanecer indiferente ante el encarcelamiento de Juan
y se fue a Galilea a anunciar las buenas noticias de parte de Dios.
Decía: “Ya se cumplió el plazo señalado, y el Reino de Dios esta
cerca. Vuélvanse a Dios y acepten con fe sus buenas noticias”. Y
comenzó a llamar a sus primeros discípulos para llevar adelante su
misión. Los que encarcelaron a Juan pensaron que con esto se iba
a terminar la fiebre del reino, pero lo que hicieron fue alborotarle
más; porque la vida de Dios, como el junquillo, siempre sigue
buscando salidas., aun atravesando el asfalto negro de la opresión
en el mundo.
- Porque creemos la Buena Noticia, compartimos el pan
y el vino, signo de la presencia de Cristo entre nosotros. Porque
tenemos fe, nos comprometemos a pescar a los hombres en
un servicio caritativo y liberalizador del pecado en una entrega
solidaria a los bienes mesiánicos .
