SUNDAY, MArch 6th 2022 / “5th FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT”
“JESUS TEMPTED BY THE DEVIL IN THE DESERT”.
- Speaking of temptations we can affirm that human life
is full of trials, because seduction assaults us all in different
ways; of these three stand out for their importance: First, we
are tempted to overreach our possibilities, Second, to have
ambitions and greater desires of goods, without personal
improvement in many cases and Third, the will of power and
dominion over the other. These three trials assailed Jesustoday
when he was tempted by the devil at the end of his Lent in the
desert.
- Today’s first reading speaks of the profession of faith
of the chosen people, which testifies to the encounter with
God at crucial moments in their history; for they lived with
the patriarchs, were freed from bondage in Egypt and were
led to the promised land and God was always with them in the
midst of difficulties and never abandoned them; so we all today
acclaim in the psalm saying: “The Lord is with me in trouble”.
- The second reading tells usthatthe faith ofthe Christian
consists essentially in believing that Jesus is the Lord, the only
Lord, and that, consequently, he does not allow other “lords”
to arise who seek to mortgage the freedom of the individual or
of peoples. This is why the first Christians, rebelling against the
tyranny of the emperors, died crying out: “Christ is Lord”.
- And in the Gospel of St. Luke we affirm that the Church,
like Jesus, does not receive diabolical temptation once and for
all. Thisis why we must always be on the alert, because when we
least expect it, the devil will find the most opportune occasion
for himself and the least expected for the Church herself. And
we cannot forget that the devil is always close to us, to make us
fall into temptation.
- Finally, we celebrate in the Eucharist the first fruits of
our salvation, Jesus has definitively conquered the power of
evil, he has been freed from the body of death and transported
to a new earth. In this sacrament we proclaim that through
Jesus every human being hasthe power of God to overcome the
trials of existence, When we receive communion, we receive
the pledge of our own victory.
- From today I remind you that we will have a SPIRITUAL
RETREAT OF LENT (in Spanish) on Saturday April 2nd in the
Valero Hall, beginning at 7:30 am with the prayer of the Holy
Rosary to the 7 sorrows of the Blessed Virgin and after the Holy
Mass we will have the breakfast of the confraternity and the
talks and confessions until TWO pm. Cordially invited.

Domingo, Marzo 6 2022 / “PRIMER DOMINGO DE CUARESMA”
“JESÚS TENTADO POR EL DEMONIO
EN EL DESIERTO”
- Hablando de tentaciones podemos afirmar que la
vida humana esta llena de pruebas, pues la seducción nos
asalta a todos de formas diferentes; de estas tres sobresalen
por su importancia: Primero, somos tentados para que nos
extralimitemos sobre nuestras posibilidades, Segundo, tener
ambiciones y mayores deseos de bienes,sin superación personal
en muchos casos y Tercero, la voluntad de poder y dominio
sobre el otro. Estas tres pruebas hoy asaltaron a Jesús cuando
fue tentado por el diablo al cabo de su Cuaresma en el desierto.
- La primera lectura de hoy habla de la profesión de fe del
pueblo escogido, el cual da testimonio del encuentro con Dios
en momentos cruciales de su historia; pues convivieron con los
patriarcas, se liberaron de la servidumbre en Egipto y fueron
guiados hacia la tierra prometida y Dios siempre estuvo con
ellos en medio de las dificultades y nunca los abandonó; por lo
que todos hoy aclamamos en el salmo diciendo: “El Señor está
conmigo en la tribulación”.
- La segunda lectura nos dice que la fe del cristiano
consiste esencialmente en creer que Jesús es el Señor, el Único
Señor, y que, por consiguiente, no permite que surjan otros
“señores” que pretendan hipotecar la libertad del individuo o
de los pueblos. Por eso, los primeros cristianos, rebeldes ante
la tiranía de los emperadores, morían gritando: “Cristo es el
Señor”.
- Y en el Evangelio de San Lucas afirmamos que la
Iglesia, como Jesús, no recibe la tentación diabólica de una vez
para siempre. Por eso hay que estar siempre en vela, ya que,
cuando menos se piense, el demonio encontrará la ocasión
más oportuna para él y menos esperada para la misma iglesia.
Y no podemos olvidar que lo diabólico está siempre cerca de
nosotros, para hacernos caer en tentación.
- Celebramos finalmente en la Eucaristía las primicias de
nuestra salvación, Jesús ha vencido definitivamente el poder
del mal, ha sido liberado del cuerpo de muerte y transportado
a una tierra nueva. En este sacramento proclamamos que por
Jesús todo el hombre tiene el poder de Dios para superar las
pruebas de la existencia, Cuando comulgamos, recibimos la
prenda de nuestra propia victoria.
- Desde hoy les recuerdo que tendremos RETIRO
ESPIRITUAL DE CUARESMA, el día Sábado DOS de Abril en
el Salón Valero, iniciando a las 7:30 am con el rezo del Santo
rosario a los 7 dolores de la Stma. Virgen y luego de la Santa
Misa tendremos el desayuno de la cofradía y las charlas y
confesiones hasta las DOS pm. Cordialmente invitados.
