“I WILL FOLLOW YOU WHEREVER YOU GO”
- The reference to the Word of God that we meditate on this Sunday
is not in Jesus abstract or individual, but an appeal to the believing
community, through the reading of the signs, as a form of language;
hence, for St. Paul, the new man is equivalent to the man in Christ;
for he identifies his faith with his beliefs and thus incarnates his
Word as part of his life and mission.
- In the first reading, the book of Kings presents the call of the
prophets as a new birth, since he breaks away from his family nucleus
and sets out on the mission entrusted to him. “Elisha marched after
Elijah and went into his service”. Hence the responsorial psalm:
“You, Lord, are the lot of my inheritance”
- The second reading from St. Paul to the Galatians re-minds us that
the liberation the Lord asks of us must be total. However, it will
be affected by love of neighbor, for without this love the climate
necessary for the exercise of any true freedom will be lacking. I say
to you, walk according to the Spirit and do not fulfill the desires of
the flesh, for the flesh fights against the spirit and the spirit against
the flesh.
- In the Gospel, Jesus made the decision to go to Jerusalem and, on
the way, they entered a village in Samaria to lodge, but they did
not receive him because he was going to Jerusalem; then they went
to another village and while he was on his way, one said to him: “I
will follow you wherever you go”. This following Christ on the road
demands of us an attitude of poverty and much detachment. We
know that the Eucharist is our food on the way to the Father.
- Let us remember that this June 29 we will celebrate the Feast of
the Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul. For the Christian community
this memorial day is very important as a remem-brance of these
cornerstones in whom Our Lord placed all his trust in regard to
the Evangelization and expansion of the Mother Church around
the world. I ask a prayer from each of you on this day for the
commemoration of my 20th Anniversary of Ordination to the
Priesthood, which is celebrated since June 29, 2002 when His
Excellency, at the time, Bishop Thomas Daily ordained me at St.
James Cathedral in Brook-lyn, NY.

digo: Andad según el Espíritu y no realicéis los deseos de la carne;
