SUNDAY, August 8th 2021
“Command me to come to you,
walking on the water”.
- To strengthen Elijah on the journey, God gives him
bread and water, as an evocation of the Passover of his
ancestors. This way, Elijah feels the goodness of the Lord.
Jesus the bread of life strengthens us for our journey,
following the way of love. “After the fire there was a faint
breeze, and when Elijah felt it, he covered his face with his
mantle”.
- In the second reading we see how Paul resolutely
abandoned his Jewish identity and converted to
Christianity, considered a scandal by the Jews. But he did
not adopt an ironic attitude toward them, much less one
of contempt, but remained ready to give everything for
his fundamentalist brethren.
- In the Gospel of the day, Jesus, even when
performing a prodigious and extraordinary miracle by
allowing Peter to walk on the water, refuses to be called a
“ghost.” For we must not confuse the supernatural with
the “fantastic”. This Gospel account avoids any mythical
aspect and narrates with extreme simplicity what is
extraordinary.
- In synthesis, we can say: God is not a hurricane wind,
an earthquake or a fire: he is a whisper. And Christ is
recognized as the Son of God when the storm subsides.
In the Eucharistic gathering we can affirm the presence of
God through Jesus Christ, enlightened by the Spirit when
we recognize the signs of Christ, as Priest, as Prophet and
as King. - Remember, dear parents, Register your children for
the Sacramental preparation of First Communion and
Confirmation on time.

“Mándame ir hacia Ti,
caminando sobre el agua”.
- Para fortalecerlo en la jornada, Dios le da a Elías pan
y agua, como evocación de la pascua de sus antepasados.
De este modo, Elías siente la bondad del Señor. Jesús el
pan de vida nos fortalece para nuestra jornada, siguiendo
el camino del amor. “después del fuego se oyó una brisa
tenue; al sentirla, Elías se tapo el rostro con el manto”.
- En la segunda lectura vemos como Pablo
abandonó resueltamente su identidad judía y se convirtió
al cristianismo, considerado como un escándalo por los
mismos judíos. Pero no por eso adoptó frente a ellos
una actitud irónica, ni mucho menos de desprecio, sino
que siguió estando dispuesto a darlo todo por aquellos
hermanos integristas.
- En el Evangelio del día, Jesús, aún al realizar un
prodigioso y extraordinario milagro al permitir que Pedro
caminase sobre el agua, rehúye el tratamiento de “:
fantasma”. Pues no hemos de confundir lo sobrenatural
con lo “fantástico”. Este relato del evangelio elude todo
aspecto mítico y narra con extrema sencillez lo que no
deja de ser extraordinario.
- En síntesis, podemos decir: Dios no es un viento
huracanado, un terremoto o un fuego: es un susurro.
Y Cristo es reconocido como el Hijo de Dios, cuando la
tempestad se calma. En la reunión Eucarística podemos
afirmar la presencia de Dios por medio de Jesucristo,
iluminados por el Espíritu cuando reconocemos los signos
de Cristo, como Sacerdote, Profeta y Rey.
- Ahora recuerden, queridos padres de familia, Inscribir
a sus niños para la preparación Sacramental de Primera
Comunión y Confirmación con tiempo.
- Dios les Bendiga a todos y disfruten de este lindo tiempo
de verano en Familia.
