“AS MANY AS YOU MEET, INVITE TO THE WEDDING”
- Again the Kingdom is compared to a majestic banquet.
Reflecting on God’s abundance, one might think of a table to
which all the peoples of the earth are invited. For Isaiah, this
feast is a celebration of victory and consolation at which the
tears of all faces will be wiped away. The Gospel also proclaims
the universal invitation, but warns of the need to be prepared:
the Church teaches us that conversion is the appropriate dress
for this occasion. While that day is coming, St. Paul reminds the
Philippians, we are already enjoying the magnanimity of God,
who attends with solicitude to the needs of his children.
- In biblical language, the banquet is an image that
expresses the final encounter between God and his people.
Following a certain parallelism with last Sunday’s parable, the
king repeatedly calls the chosen ones to participate in the banquet
and receives the consequent refusals to the call: the excuses are
unconvincing, considering that it is the king himself who invites
them, and the end of the servants is, also now, mistreatment and
death.
- This Sunday’s parable, addressed to the Christian
community, the new guests at the banquet, teaches us that it is
not enough to have been called, it is not enough to have been
baptized into the Church. Conversion is necessary, symbolically
represented in the festive garment. In the Church we are all
invited, good and bad, just and unjust, but we must all respond
personally to God’s invitation. We are invited to the wedding
feast; but we must also be dressed for the feast to enter into it.
For reflection: “one of them was not wearing the wedding
garment” the invitation is made, but it is the responsibility of
each one to accept it. what attitudes do you think you lack to
complete the wedding garment with which to present yourself
at the banquet?
- The table is set. We have received the invitation to the
banquet not by our merits, but by the pure benevolence of the
host: God.

“A TODOS LOS QUE ENCONTRÉIS,
CONVIDADLOS A LA BODA”
- Nuevamente el Reino es comparado con un majestuoso
banquete. Al reflexionar sobre la abundancia de Dios se podría
pensar en una mesa a la que están invitados todos los pueblos
de la tierra. Para Isaías, este festín es una celebración de victoria
y de consuelo en la que se enjugarán las lágrimas de todos los
rostros. También el Evangelio proclama la invitación universal, pero
advierte la necesidad de estar preparados: la Iglesia nos enseña que
la conversión es el vestido apropiado para esta ocasión. Mientras
llega ese día, recuerda San Pablo a los filipenses, ya estamos
disfrutando de la magnanimidad de Dios, que atiende con solicitud
las necesidades de sus hijos.
- En el lenguaje bíblico, el banquete es una imagen con la
que se expresa el encuentro final entre Dios y su pueblo. Siguiendo
un cierto paralelismo con la parábola del domingo pasado, el rey
llama repetidas veces a los elegidos para participar en el banquete
y recibe las consiguientes negativas a la llamada: las excusas son
poco convincentes, teniendo en cuenta que es el propio rey quien
les invita, y el final de los criados es, también ahora el maltrato y la
muerte.
- La parábola de este domingo, dirigida a la comunidad
cristiana, los nuevos invitados al banquete, nos enseña que, no
es suficiente el haber sido llamados, no basta el bautismo que
incorpora a la Iglesia. Es necesaria la conversión, representada
simbólicamente en la vestidura de fiesta. En la Iglesia todos somos
invitados, buenos y malos, justos e injusto, pero todos debemos
responder personalmente a la invitación de Dios. Estamos invitados
al banquete de bodas; pero también debemos estar vestidos de
fiesta para entrar en Él.
- Para reflexionar: “uno de ellos no llevaba el traje de
bodas” la invitación está hecha, pero es responsabilidad de cada
uno aceptarla. ¿qué actitudes crees que te faltan para completar el
traje de boda con el que presentarte en el banquete?
- La mesa está servida. Hemos recibido la invitación al
banquete no por nuestros méritos, sino por pura benevolencia del
anfitrión: Dios.
- El vino nuevo, fruto de la viña de Dios, es la sangre de
Jesucristo. En la medida que comulgamos de la Eucaristía, somo
sarmientos vivos injertados en la cepa, que es el Señor.
