SUNDAY, November 7th 2021
“BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT,
FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN”.
- Today’s readings make available to others all that
one has to live on. It is not enough to give what we have to
spare. Christ offered himself totally, once and for all, for the
forgiveness of mankind. Today we celebrate this self-giving
- In the first reading, from the book of Kings, the widow
made a little bread and brought it to the prophet Elijah; for she,
as a poor woman, does not cling to what she has. She lives more
in the hope of that which enriches than in that which remedies
the lack of the instant: “First make me a loaf of bread and bring
it to me; for you and your son you will do it later”. She obeyed
and God’s mercy allowed her to never lack sustenance.
- The second reading in the letter to the Hebrews
highlights the difference between the first and the second
coming of the Lord: He will appear again to save once and for
all; for salvation is not a done thing, coming down from heaven,
but a journey that must be made day by day through the many
obstacles that life presents to us.
- The scale of values that St. Mark’s Gospel offers us today
is in inverse relation to the worldly scale of values. Sometimes
the Church becomes worldly and admits worldly etiquette
into her bosom. An authentic conversion, at the ecclesial level,
implies the restitution of primacy to the poor, the oppressed
and the exploited: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put
more into the treasury than all the others, for she has put in
everything she had to live on”.
- Finally, I invite each family to come to our parish office
and set aside a star on behalf of your loved ones to decorate a
tree of the parish gardens this Christmas. We have three sizes

“DICHOSOS LOS POBRES EN EL ESPÍRITU,
PORQUE DE ELLOS SERÁ EL REINO DE LOS CIELOS”
- Las lecturas de hoy ponen a disposición de los demás
todo lo que uno tiene para vivir. No es suficiente dar lo que nos
sobra. Cristo se ha ofrecido totalmente, una sola vez, para el
perdón de los hombres. Hoy celebramos esa entrega.
- En la primera lectura, del libro de los Reyes, la viuda
hizo un panecillo y lo llevó al profeta Elías; pues ella como mujer
pobre no se aferra a lo que tiene. Vive mas en la esperanza de
lo que enriquece que en lo que remedia la falta del instante:
“Primero hazme a mi un panecillo y tráemelo; para ti y para tu
hijo lo harás después”. Ella obedeció y la misericordia de Dios
permitió que nunca le faltara sustento.
- La segunda lectura en la carta a los hebreos, destaca
la diferencia entre la primera y la segunda venida del Señor:
Pues aparecerá de nuevo para salvar definitivamente; pues la
salvación no es una cosa hecha, que baja del cielo, sino todo un
camino que hay que recorrer día a día a través de los muchos
obstáculos que la vida nos presenta.
- La escala de valores que nos ofrece hoy el Evangelio
de San Marcos, va en relación inversa de la escala mundana de
valores. A veces la Iglesia se mundaniza y admite en su seno el
protocolo mundano. Una auténtica conversión, a nivel eclesial,
implica la restitución de la primacía y del protagonismo a los
pobres, a los oprimidos y los explotados: “Os aseguro que esa
pobre viuda ha echado en el arca de las ofrendas más que todos
los demás, porque ha echado todo lo que tenía para vivir”.
- ¿Hoy debemos meditar sobre el como nosotros nos
estamos preparando para este encuentro definitivo con el Señor,
cuando comparezcamos en el Tribunal del Juicio final? Además,
pensar en las obras de Misericordia que hemos practicado y si
estas han sido suficientes para ganar la Salvación.
- Finalmente les invito para que cada familia se acerque
a nuestra oficina parroquial y separe una estrella en nombre
de sus seres queridos, para adornar un árbol parroquial esta
navidad. Tenemos tres tamaños de estrellas: $ 50, $ 100 y $150.
